Several years ago, we became aware of the Phaeton line of trumpets and decided to give them a thorough testing and comparison to other established professional horns. Even though these trumpets were priced about $1000 below most competing horns, the Phaeton delivered with outstanding results. The true measure of a horns quality and design is whether or not this is the horn you choose to play. We found the Phaeton trumpet to be one of our favorite “go-to” horns. We think you will love it too.

The Phaeton flugelhorn certainly is a winner in the looks department but how does it play? We would describe this horn as having a compact flugel sound, similar to a Yamaha Shew model. Intonation is better than most flugels we’ve played. Valve action is superb. For technical specs, this horn has a medium-large bore, three water keys, a carved-wood third valve trigger spatula, and a large, heavy duty finger ring. Carried over from the trumpet line, you’ll find the distinctive Phaeton-style braces, short-stroke valves with Monel pistons, and heavy, solid-brass, machined finger buttons.

Phaeton pocket trumpets feature a medium-large bore with 4 7/8” bell. The full-wrap artist-quality custom design delivers cool looks and compact size and sounds amazingly like a full size trumpet. The valves are Monel, the top/bottom caps are heavy weight solid brass, and the finger buttons are Phaeton-style machined brass. The design is completed with three traditional water keys and first valve slide thumb hook.
